Faith Community Health System encourages men to take an active role in their health.
JACKSBORO, Texas (June 1, 2026) — June is Men’s Health Month, and Faith Community Health System is encouraging men throughout the region to make their health a priority by scheduling routine checkups, asking questions and taking steps to address concerns before they become more serious.
“Men’s Health Month is an important reminder that taking care of your health is not something to put off,” said Frank L. Beaman, CEO of Faith Community Health System. “Whether it has been a year since your last checkup or much longer, we want men in our communities to know that care is available close to home and that one visit can be an important first step toward better health.”
Routine wellness visits can help identify common health concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol issues, heart disease risk, weight changes, sleep problems and other conditions that may not always have obvious symptoms in the early stages.
For many men, a checkup also provides an opportunity to talk with a trusted medical provider about family history, medications, stress, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, alcohol use and recommended health screenings.
“Many serious health conditions are easier to manage when they are found early,” said Dr. Joshua M. Evans, Internal Medicine, with Faith Community Health System. “A routine visit gives us the opportunity to look at the whole person, not just one symptom or one concern. It is a chance to talk about what is going well, what may need attention and what screenings may be appropriate based on age, family history and overall health.”
Preventive care can look different for each patient. Some men may need blood pressure monitoring or lab work. Others may need help managing diabetes, cholesterol or heart disease risk. Depending on age and individual risk factors, providers may also discuss prostate health, colon cancer screening, mental health, sleep concerns or other issues that can affect long-term wellness.
Colon cancer screening, including colonoscopies when appropriate, may be part of that conversation. However, Faith Community Health System encourages men to begin with a primary care visit so their provider can help determine which screenings are recommended and when they should be scheduled.
“Men sometimes wait until something feels wrong before they make an appointment,” said Dr. Evans. “But preventive care is about staying ahead of problems when we can. Even if a patient feels healthy, routine checkups can help us find risk factors early and create a plan that fits that person’s life.”
Faith Community Health System provides access to care through Faith Community Hospital and its family of clinics serving patients across the region, including clinics in Alvord, Bowie, Graham and Jacksboro. Men who have delayed a checkup or have questions about their health are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a primary care provider.
“Taking care of your health is also a way of taking care of your family and your future,” Dr. Evans said. “We want men to feel comfortable starting that conversation. They do not have to have all the answers before they come in. That is what we are here for.”
